Florida United Methodist Children’s Home at Christmas
The Florida United Methodist Children’s Home is looking forward to the celebration of the birth of our savior. Nearly one hundred children look forward to the season as activities ramp up during December. It means reviving the old traditions that we have formed over the years and remembering our past. It means promoting and participating in the magic and wonder that children find in Christmas For many of us, it means giving to others who need our help.
When you were a child (or child at heart), did you ever receive a gift on Christmas day? Was it exactly what you wanted (you really wanted more underwear)? Maybe not!
In years past, FUMCH asked for specific gift donations based on age and gender which could be distributed to their charges. But, with no knowledge of a child’s personality and interests, we probably missed the mark a few times when purchasing gifts.
While not as personal, the staff has chosen to collect gift cards which can be distributed to the children. House parents, who know their charges, may purchase one gift for each child to be opened on Christmas day. Thanks to gift cards, the children later go out with their house parents and shop for what they really want. Gift cards from Amazon, Visa, Target, Walmart, Kohl’s, and Gamestop go to individuals. Cards from Olive Garden and Papa John’s Pizza are used for group dining. All are collected by Lake Gibson Methodist Church and delivered to FUMCH in late November for distribution.
Your generosity makes this program work to put smiles on the faces of many children. Gift cards may be delivered/mailed to Lake Gibson Methodist Church, 424 W. Daughtery Road, Lakeland, FL 33809. If you have questions, call the church office at 863-858-5431 or the Kitchens at 863-984-4564.
