FUMCH Bicycle Ministry

Lake Gibson Methodist Church has a unique relationship with the Florida United Methodist Children’s Home. We help support their residential program by on campus bicycle repairs and supplying refurbished bikes. With approximately one hundred bicycles on campus the work is never ending.

Kids are tough on bicycles. Pretzeled wheels, broken pedals, lost ball bearings and broken drivetrains often require that refurbished bicycles be scrapped. Replacement parts may be more costly than replacing the entire bicycle,

Thanks to the generosity of our members, and bicycles given to them by neighbors, we have provided approximately two dozen refurbished bicycles to FUMCH each year in addition to those fixed on campus.

If you know of cyclists who have excess bikes in need of a good home, our church can always use more bicycles to be refurbished. Deliver them to the church office or call Dwight Kitchens at 863-984-4564 for local pickup.

Fortunately, one of our repair crews owns a motorcoach. This family spends one or two weeks a year in the FUMCH campground while repairing bicycles on campus. LGMC has a designated fund (#2395 – Bicycle Repair Fund) used to purchase parts (tires, tubes, chains, saddles, etc.) for this bicycle ministry. We know of two community fund raising activities each year whose proceeds go toward this purpose. Should you desire to help support this ministry financially, just make your donation to #2395 with LGMC.
