The Golden Rules includes: Adult supervisors should be over the age of 21. At least two unrelated eligible persons should supervise. All doors to the building should be locked. Uncovered windows and open doors (or doors with glass inserts) should be available. All activities should take place on the first floor. At least one person 5 years older than the oldest child/youth should be involved in supervision. 7. When working with children and youth, some practical points to consider are: Let them go to the bathroom unsupervised. Be positive. Let them work out their own problems as they see fit. If upset, hug them. A responsible adult should sign children in and out of activities. 10. Which of these require special guidelines? When counseling might be required. When participating in out-of-town trips and/or retreats. Where vehicle caravan rules apply. When other groups visit with yours. 11. If an alleged incident is either seen by or brought to your attention, you should: Contact the pastor or designated individual. Contact the District Superintent immediately. Follow state law. Investigate it throughly 12. In abusive situations, please remember: The child should be ashamed. The child should never be blamed. But the child was asking for it. The child can never give consent. There are conditions under which child abuse is permitted. Care and safety of the victin is the first priority. Child abuse is always wrong. The abuser is solely responsible, not the abused. 13. Acceptable disciplinary actions include: Ignore everything taught in Parent Effectiveness Training. Redirect the child's attention. Grab the child and move them away from others. Yell loudly.
